Hardware Control

The Hardware Control tab is where all of the options inherent to the hardware available for Protel phones can be controlled. This includes coin scanners, handsets, the ringer, and the relay.

To get to the Hardware Control tab, select Options Records from the Configuration button in the Navigator or the Navbar to open the Options window. The Most Common tab is already selected when the Options window opens. Click on the Hardware Control tab.

The Hardware Control tab of the Options window has the following options in it:

135 ñ Allow US Coins: Only applicable to phones equipped with an electronic coin scanner, check this box to accept US coins (and Canadian nickels).

136 ñ Allow Canadian Coins: Only applicable to phones equipped with an electronic coin scanner, check this box to accept Canadian coins (and US nickels).

Coin Mechanism Type: Select either Mechanical, ECS I, or ECS II, depending on the hardware installed in the phone. If the wrong type is selected, the phone will deny coin calls and may report coin mechanism errors.

Coin Collect Grace Period: Specify the amount of time the phone should wait after detecting an answer before the coins are collected. If the user hangs up before this time has expired, the coins will be returned. Use this option to compensate for noisy lines, busy signals, or other times when the phone may incorrectly detect an answer.

Receiver Volume: Specify the volume level of the receiver at the time the handset comes off hook. If the phone is equipped with a volume control button, the user is still able to adjust the volume.

117 ñ Allow # Key to Adjust Volume: If this box is checked, any time the user presses the # key, the volume will be adjusted. This option does not effect the use of a volume control button on phones equipped with one. Whether or not this option is checked, the # key will still transmit its DTMF signal each time it is pressed.

141 ñ Select High or Low Transmit Level: Use this option to set the default transmit level of the handset mouthpiece. Set this option properly to ensure that the correct side-tone level is provided for the payphone user. Low sets the mouthpiece transmit level to low at all times. High sets the voice transmit level to high when the receiver volume is at Low or Med (see Receiver Volume, above).

175 ñ Disable Piezo Ringer (7000 Only): Check this option to turn off the ringer in the 7000 and later model phones with a piezo ringer.

173 ñ Allow All Calls During Relay Jam: Check this option to allow non-coin (toll-free, collect, and credit card) calls during a relay jam. Leaving the box unchecked will block all outgoing calls during a relay jam.
