Call Type
Call Type is the way that Panorama classifies calls. In ExpressNet, each
cost record had within it its own call processing and routing information. If several cost records used the same call processing
information, it had to be repeated in every cost record; if a routing number changed, it
had to be changed in each cost record.
Now, cost records refer to a call processing record for information, and call
processing records refer to route records. This means that the information is
entered once and referred to many times. If there is a routing number change,
it is changed once, in the route record, and all of the phones that refer to
the call processing record (which refers to the route records) will have the new
information. The link between the cost record and the call processing record
is the call type (listed in the Discount Table column of the cost window). Call processing records refer to route records
in the Route ID column. (The
Route Assignments window is a table of route records used by the call processing record.)
The Call Type Override column in the
Cost window must be set to No in order to take advantage of this more efficient means of payphone
management. If you have recently installed Panorama and converted your records, you
will need to Condense Call Processing and Route Records in order to take advantage of the call type classification and the other
important, time-saving features that Panorama offers.
Note:
Recording and collecting CDR by Call Type is only available when using Y2k compliant firmware. Also, a properly configured Cost record is necessary to classify a call by Call Type. Cost files obtained
from Protel and Protelís distributors contain the necessary information to take advantage of this
useful and money-saving feature.
