Assignments
Each phone must have specific information in order to operate correctly. This
information is used by the phone to determine how much a call will cost, how
the call will be routed, whether or not options such as answer recognition are
enabled for each particular call, and when the phone should report to Panorama
with the records it has made for all of its activities. All of these things,
and much more, are handled by:
Cost tables, Call Processing tables, Options tables, smart phone Firmware, and Polling/Reporting information. All of these records are handled in this tab with only a few
clicks. Click on different areas of the picture below for pop-up descriptions;
scroll down below the picture for more information.
The Assignments tab is part of the
Phone window. To open the Phone window, click on the Phones & Customers button in the Navigator or the Navbar. If the Phone window has not been chosen to open in the Preferences, then either the Quick View window or the Phone List window will appear. In either case, these windows may be used to find the
desired phone record. Search records by field in the Quick View window, or search records by Location Name/Description field in the Phone List window. When either method is used, the Phone window will
open with the desired phone record displayed. Click on the Assignments tab.
In Cost, Call Processing, Options, and Firmware, the information is handled in the same manner. The Current field displays what was last downloaded to the payphone, and the Date loaded field displays the date and time the information was downloaded.
To download new information:
1. Click on the pull-down arrow under the word Assigned. A list of all of the records available for that type pops down.
2. Choose the new set of information; the date and time of the assignment will
appear to the right of the new selection, and the old set will be highlighted in
red.
3. Click
Save.
The next time the phone is
Polled or Reports with a Polling Actions record that includes Update Parameters, any new selections are downloaded to the phone automatically. The Assigned and Date Assigned fields will once again be hidden, and the Current and Date loaded fields will be updated.
The Boot Firmware, which is available to revert to in the unlikely case of memory failure, is
indicated by version. This can be updated by replacing the chip.
Right-clicking many of the fields in this tab will provide a pull-down list of
the editing features available. Choosing Edit from this list opens the record in its appropriate window. For example, In
the Cost section, right-click on the record under the Current label. Select Edit and the
Cost window will open up with the correct record displayed. In the Download
Firmware section, if a record is chosen from the Assigned pull-down menu, indicated by a red highlight in the Current field, and you decide that you donít want to change the Current selection, right click on the record and select Disable from the pop-up menu. In the Polling section, the same is possible with the Clear menu selection.
If there are any
Failed Firmware Download attempts, they are indicated in the Download Firmware section.
Set the polling activity in the Polling section:
Select an
automatic polling record to use from the pull-down menu. This type of record sets the time of
polls and matches those times with a polling action record, which specifies what actions to do during a poll (Update Parameters,
Collect Audit CDR, Update Firmware). Also, set the Dial Pattern and Dial Prefix of OUTGOING polls.
Select the incoming (reporting) activities from the pull-down list of polling
action records. Use the
Reporting & Polling tab in the Options window to tell the phone when it should report. Note: when a phone reports, it uses the hour found in the Time of Day field and uses the last two digits of the phone number for the minutes after
the hour. If the last two digits are greater than sixty, subtract sixty from
them to get the number of minutes after the hour. Example: Time of Day is set
to four at phone number 321-4589. The phone will report at 4:29 (89 ñ 60 = 29).
Polling/Reporting options.
To make Assignment changes to many records at a time, use
Global Edit.
The Enable Watch checkbox is for Protel, Inc. diagnostics.
Electronic serial numbers for currently and previously installed chassis are shown here, with the date
of installation. Older equipment may not have electronic serial numbers.
Check if the versions of firmware that you are using are
Y2k compliant. Y2k compliant firmware has many advantages along with the ìmillennium bugî fix. For instance, Call Type can be recorded within the Call Detail Record (CDR), which makes for more accurate Call Accounting and reduces polling time by collecting only the CDR desired.
